About Cooking at 40

Cooking at 40 started off as a tribute to my Uncle Rob (my great-Uncle) and his family cookbook. Years ago Uncle Rob put together the Bacon Family Cookbook with lots of help from family near and far. Uncle Rob and DrewIt was just another example of Uncle Rob’s continuous effort to keep the family together and thinking about food.

As a gift to my mom who (admit it, mom) has always been baffled by the fact that I cannot cook, I decided to create this site to share and cook the recipes found in the Bacon Family Cookbook. In a sort of Julia-Julia zen I decided I would make all the recipes in the cookbook and share my experiences here. The problem with this ambitious goal is that I also turned 40. Soon I became more enthralled with writing about aging and growing up in Vermont, than I did about writing about cooking. (See mom – this is why I don’t cook – too many distractions.)

This does not mean that I have stopped cooking and sharing my recipes online. I continue to enjoy the recipes handed down to me by my relatives in Vermont and will post them here for you to enjoy as well. However, you will also find the rants, musing, memories, and travels of a 40 year old mom who is dealing with her newly minted “midlife” status.
